The new year has brought new challenges, not the least of which has been the weather. We were blessed not to be hit as hard in February as were folks south of us. Nevertheless, the lumbering snow storm of February 25th/26th left us with substantial drifts of heavy, wet snow. Many parish members, including some new to our congregation, shoveled in shifts and we were completely cleared out by 6:30 pm Friday evening the 26th! Indeed, we welcome several new people to the congregation. They have pitched in “in spades” by joining committees and guilds. Five new members have come on board the Loaves and Fishes Outreach Committee. Their contributions are greatly valued as we work to implement the ideas we heard about when five of us attended The Magnetic Church workshop last spring. A really brave young woman even volunteered for The Property & Maintenance Committee! And wonder of wonders…she even knows how to plaster walls. We welcome Caren Levine as our new organist. Do take a minute to take a look at her very impressive website: carenlevine.net. As an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, we are very blessed to have her at Holy Trinity. The Thursday evening Study Group recently finished Karen Armstrong’s, The Great Transformation, an incredibly nourishing and challenging study of the Axial Age. Apparently we didn’t get enough of it. We’ve now viewing DVDs of Religions of the Axial Age, taught by Mark W. Muesse, PhD of Rhodes College. On April 22nd at 7:00 pm, we will begin Three Cups of Tea, about Greg Mortenson who has established about 131 schools for girls in Afghanistan.
Returning to Property and Maintenance, the sanctuary roof is at long last repaired! Our priest is very excited that she will no longer have to put out buckets in the sanctuary every time it rains. We are very grateful to the Property Committee of the Diocese for the matching grant that has made this repair possible. Finally, regarding new things at Holy Trinity Church, Inwood, we welcome a new parish Warden as we say goodbye to a warden who served for some 13 years. As a matter of fact, we have a couple of new people on the Vestry. Check out their group picture on the Parish Leadership page of this website! Oh! A parishioner repaired our sign. As soon as it gets warm enough, we’ll do a last bit of painting and it will be better than ever. |
