Holy Sacraments
Sacraments and Pastoral Care
Whatever brings you here, whether a birth, a wedding, a loss, or a question, we would love to walk with you. Contact the office or call [(212) 567-1177].
Holy Eucharist
We gather every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to hear the story of Jesus and share his Body and Blood. The service lasts about an hour. It has two parts. In the Liturgy of the Word, we hear Scripture, a sermon, and our prayers. In Holy Communion, we gather at the altar as the first disciples did. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Communion. If you are not baptized, we can baptize you on the spot, or would rather not receive, come forward with your arms crossed for a blessing. [Gluten-free wafers are available.]
Holy Baptism
We welcome anyone, child or adult, who wishes to follow Christ to be baptized. Please worship with us for a few weeks beforehand, and let the office know so you can meet with the priest. Each candidate is presented by sponsors (godparents), at least one of whom should be a baptized Christian.
We especially celebrate baptisms on four feasts:
-
the Baptism of Our Lord (early January)
-
the Easter Vigil
-
the Day of Pentecost (usually late May or early June)
-
All Saints' Sunday (early November)
Other dates can be arranged. There is no fee. We ask families to take part in our common life before the baptism and, we hope, long after.
Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation
If you have been baptized and want to deepen your faith, or to become a member of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion, we will arrange a course of preparation suited to you. The bishop then lays hands on you, either in confirmation (your first adult commitment), in reception (if you were confirmed in another tradition, such as the Roman Catholic Church), or in reaffirmation (renewing promises already made).
You don't need to be confirmed to belong here. To serve on the vestry or as a delegate to diocesan convention, you must be a confirmed or received communicant in good standing.
Holy Matrimony
Holy Trinity is a beautiful place to be married, and we joyfully celebrate the marriages of all couples. Please speak with the priest before you choose a date. The Church asks for at least 30 days' notice and a period of preparation, and at least one of you must be baptized. If either of you has been divorced, the bishop's consent is required, and we will help you through that process. Couples from other Christian traditions are welcome to marry here.
Weddings and anniversary blessings may be celebrated within the Sunday Eucharist. The church is available at no cost to pledging members; please ask about arrangements and fees otherwise. We can also host receptions in [the parish hall]. Contact us to learn more.
Reconciliation (Confession)
If you carry a burden of guilt, shame, or anxiety, it can help to tell your story to a priest and hear God's forgiveness spoken aloud. As the Book of Common Prayer says, "the secrecy of a confession is morally binding for the confessor and is not to be broken." We are glad to arrange a time, and during Lent the priest keeps open office hours on [days].
Ministry to the Sick
When you or someone you love is ill, in the hospital, or at home, a priest will come to pray, anoint, and bring Communion. Please call; we would rather hear too early than too late.
Burial of the Dead
When someone you love dies, call us first, even before you have made other arrangements. We will help plan a funeral or memorial service in the church, with burial or the interment of ashes. The Christian burial service is a liturgy of Easter hope, and we are honored to offer it to members, their families, and our neighbors.
Sacramentos y Cuidado Pastoral
